Powell John. Will made 1 October 1708. Proved 16 December 1708.
In the Name of God Amen I John Powell of Road in the County of Somerset Fuller do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following. Imprimis.
I give devise and bequeath unto my wife Mary and her heirs and assigns for ever to be by her and them or any or either of them sold alienated released and confirmed to any person or persons for payment of my debts and also my legacies hereinafter mentioned. All my land lying in the several parishes of Road and Woolverton in the said County of Somerset provided always and upon condition nevertheless that my said wife Mary her heirs and assigns do pay or cause to be paid unto my children hereinafter named (that is to say) my sons Richard and John and my daughters Mary Elizabeth and Martha the sum of fifty pounds apiece when they shall come to be of the age of one and twenty years or be married which shall first happen.
And if my said wife her heirs and assigns shall neglect or refuse to pay the said several and respective sums of fifty pounds apiece given my said children as aforesaid then my will is my said sons Richard and John and my said daughters Mary Elizabeth and Martha shall have and enjoy all the lands given as aforesaid to them and their heirs jointly for ever.
Item. I give unto my two sons Richard and John ten pounds apiece of lawful money of Great Britain to bind them out apprentices.
Item. I give unto my said daughters Mary Elizabeth and Martha one bed bedstead with all the furniture to the said beds belonging apiece and each to have them when they come of age.
All the rest residue and remainder of my goods and chattels I give devise and bequeath unto my said wife Mary the full and sole Executrix of this my last Will and Testament.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this first day of October in the seventh year of Her Majesty’s reign Anno Domini 1708.
